Fall - Jazz and Musical Theatre Dance
To be a triple threat performer, experience with dance for musical theatre is a must. Designed for beginner to intermediate dancers, a choreographer will teach you the necessities to successfully perform jazz and musical theatre choreography. Whether you're preparing for a dance-heavy show or looking to expand your skill set, this class will leave you feeling confident about your dance abilities and prepared to nail your next audition.  This class culminates in a final showcase performance.

Winter - Acting Musical Theatre
Musical theatre is a tricky craft that requires special attention to your acting, as well as singing. Now's your chance to learn tips for acting musical theatre, and hone your ability to interpret songs as a character! Our Teaching Artists will help you break-down lyrics and apply acting concepts to create a compelling musical theatre performance.  This class culminates in a final showcase performance.

Spring - Improvisation
Say "yes, and..." to joining Highwood's insanely fun improv class! Students will explore all areas of improv, through fun and hilarious games and exercises. Students are consistently challenged and inspired to take risks, do their best, and develop as confident collaborators and creators through effective and thoughtful communication. The class - perfect for both seasoned thespians and comedy fans - culminates in a final showcase performance.

Fall - Hip Hoppin’ Dance and Movement

Get ready to move and groove your way through our Hoppin’ Hip-Hop class! A professional Teaching Artist will guide first-time or experienced dancers in learning high-energy dance moves. Each class will begin with basic stretching and warm-ups, before students experiment with various styles of hip-hop dance and combine them to form some funky routines! Students of all levels are sure to have a blast busting out their best moves!  This class culminates in a final showcase performance.

Winter - Musical Melodies
Calling all budding Broadway stars! Learn the fundamentals of singing musical theatre through a variety of fun Broadway tunes - everything from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Disney. Blending song work with high-energy movement and storytelling games, students will not only gain confidence in their singing, but also improve projection, tone, and diction.  This class culminates in a final showcase performance.

Who

Classes are open to all interested students in the specified grades.  The only prerequisite is a desire to learn, explore, meet new people, and collaborate!


What

Classes meet once a week for eight weeks, and are focused on different areas of theatre, music, or performance throughout the year.  Students work together with instructors that specialize in the particular field, and are often coached by other performing professionals.  Students are consistently challenged and inspired to take risks, do their best, and develop as confident collaborators and creators.  Most classes culminate in a final showcase performance, and students are encouraged to take advantage of additional performance opportunities at Highwood as they arise.


When

Classes for students in grades 4 - 7 take place on Tuesdays from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM; Classes for Students in grades K-3 take place on Saturday mornings from 10:30 - 11:45 AM.  Classes are conveniently scheduled to serve as excellent enrichment opportunities for those participating in the After School Production Company, though are also open to any student!
