The Highwood Theatre hosts students for interactive field trips to learn about all aspects of theatre. At our rehearsal and performance space in downtown Silver Spring, students will see the workings of a real, live non-profit theatre company. From exploring our workshop and costume room, to working in our blackbox theatre and with our staff, each student is guaranteed to have a great time, learn something new, and get creative.
After a fun warm-up, students will be divided into groups and will rotate through hands-on workshops in Set Design and Construction, Costume Design/Props and Make-Up, Improv, and Lighting and Sound. In each workshop, students not only see demonstrations and learn terminology and techniques, but they will actually participate in and perform many activities themselves - from trying their hand at using a drill, to applying make-up, using microphones, and controlling lights. The field trip ends with everyone together in the theatre for a short “showcase” of what they’ve created.

Field trips can be arranged on different days of the week and generally last around 3 hours. We can accommodate groups of up to 40-50 students at one time.
