Highwood's two-week Musical Theatre Intensive program gives a small group of students, grades 7-12, the opportunity to mimic a professional theatre structure and prepare a full-length musical in a condensed, intense rehearsal process. It was a pleasure working with ten talented students to create, stage, and rehearse a hysterical musical spoof - The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) by Joanne Bogart and Eric Rockwell. Our cast and crew have worked tirelessly for the past two weeks in preparation for opening weekend, learning in-depth knowledge about the craft of musical theatre along the way.
Week 1 consisted of choreography, music, and scene work, acting training, and a dialect master class by a DC professional actress. In addition, students participated in character, improv, and theatrical movement workshops and experimented with various theatrical techniques to enhance their physical and vocal expressions. Week 2 continued the speedy rehearsal process and by mid-week, we transitioned to tech rehearsals, where students worked onstage with lights, sound, and set pieces. By the end of the week, our show is ready for audiences to enjoy!
On behalf of the cast and crew of The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!), we thank you for coming and invite you to grab a snack, sit back, and enjoy a musical about your favorite musicals.
Matthew Nicola, Artistic Director
