Each session of the tech crew is new and different - Highwood has three productions over the summer, so there is always something exciting and challenging to work on!
All students work in all areas, but will be assigned one leadership role (based on his/her interests):
Welcoming students with interests in any area of technical theatre theatre - the Tech Crew Intensive provides all students with an opportunity to contribute to theatre together through exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Designed to be an immersive, hands-on technical theatre arts education program, this group of students will learn about all aspects of Technical Theatre, while creating the lights, set, sound, and all other technical elements for Highwood's summer productions.
At the beginning of the session, each student will be assigned a design role on the tech crew based on his/her interests - serving as the main lead for a specific design area. Through problem solving, responsibility, and creative thinking, each crew member will be empowered to take ownership over his/her area and provide leadership and instruction to the other Tech Crew members. Each student will be consistently challenged and inspired to take risks, do their best, and develop as confident collaborators and creators.
The tech crew is overseen by the Technical Director, and students work with professional designers in each area of the production.
The Highwood Theatre is supported in part by funding from the Montgomery County government and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, the S. Kann Sons Company Foundation, the William and Karen Tell Foundation, the Robert N. Alfandre Foundation, Wenger Corporation, and West Wing Writers.
